In some ways, one could say that GOOD HEALTH care is a bit like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work together correctly. When building a house, if you tried to build your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually may even collapse. If you tried to build your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. These concepts apply to your body as well, and our care addresses many common reasons why people experience pain and other health issues. If something is not right with your body's foundation, than that needs to be addressed before true health can be achieved. There are three general phases of care . . .
If you are in pain when you come into our New York office, our first objective is to help you reduce pain and start feeling better as soon as possible. Depending on the severity of the underlying condition which is causing your pain, it is typical for our patients to begin feeling better within only a few visits. This may include immediate relief using our specialized pain relief injections if necessary.
Getting out of pain is often only the first step in really addressing the problem. The next step is one of the most important. That is where we correct the underlying reason for your pain or issue. During the corrective phase of care, we focus on the reason for your problem and then help muscles and other tissues to heal, which helps prevent further injury or pain. This is often accomplished with the aid of physical therapy and chiropractic care. The goal of corrective or restorative treatment is to help bring your body back to 100% functioning and make sure we keep it there. It is typical to need care for 1-2 months to really ensure that we try and fix it once and for all. The length of this phase of your care depends on your overall health and the severity of your problem.
Once your body has fully healed and you are no longer experiencing pain or other pain symptoms, it is important to maintain your improvement through home exercises. Our therapist and doctors will give you a custom home exercise routine that will be updated periodically. This phase of care only requires a quick visit to the office every so often to make sure that you are still progressing at home.
